A perfect blend of architecture and ecology

A perfect blend of architecture and ecology

  • Nov 03, 2022

The challenge to architects is how to meet the needs of modern construction in an ecologically optimal way. After making a large number of on-site investigations, architects completed the structural transformation and integrated system layout with extremely minimal intervention, so that the light steel frame building could be connected with the surrounding forest and water system smoothly.

There are many kinds of plants surrounding the construction, most of them are persimmon trees, among which the oldest tree is 100-year-old. The building team recorded root elevation, species, and names of all trees with DBH of 10cm one by one, and “weaved” the building into the environment so as to adapt to the layout of the original vegetation.

The allusion to this design is that the last fruit left on the tree by the farmer is especially to be shared with the animals of nature in order to pray for the coming year's harvest.

Project site looks out over the gentle hills to the south and the water network plains to the north, with waterways and land routes, surrounded by native vegetation and a typical wetland ecology. The architects sought to present the natural beauty of the Xixi Wetland as "cold, quiet, solitary, wild and secluded" to visitors through the design, working together with our collaborative construction team to evoke the resonance between man and the pristine nature through the medium of architecture.

Landscape design follows the overall concept of “ecology first” and adopts small-scale, point-type juxtaposition to the building space.

The design of water route is based on the original landform of the wetland, enabling people who are accustomed to land transporting to travel along the ancient waterway to the construction. In the water waves stirred by the oars, people could appreciate the beauty of XIXI Wetland from a different perspective.
